Why Is Bill Engvall Still on “Dancing With the Stars”? [POLL]

Bill Engvall is one of my favorite comedians of all time. He's hilarious, plus an incredibly nice guy. I met him once when he did a show in Bossier City and consider myself a big fan.

But am I happy he's made it to the semi-finals on Season 17 of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars"? I have to say, I'm not so sure.

Engvall has escaped eliminations against some of the best dancers. Christina Milian was eliminated during week 5, right after she earned the first perfect 30 of the season.  Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi was kicked off after an amazing October 28 zombie-themed group dance with Bill, Lean Remini, Elizabeth Berkley-Lauren. She didn't achieve that perfect score for any of her dances, but she was doing better.

Daugherty got the boot November 4. He'd just earned a 30 the week before during his Foxing Awesome team dance with Amber Riley and Derek, Corbin Bleu and Karina, and Jack Osbourne and Cheryl. On November 11, the red lights fell on Bill and Elizabeth.  Bill won out on that one, too. And Elizabeth had just earned a perfect score for her trio Salsa with Val and Gleb.

Bill Engvall has been a favorite of mine since I first found out he was going to be on Season 17. I consistently voted for him in previous weeks because he was actually improving. But disappointment struck twice last week, when he performed not just one, but two substandard disco routines the same night. I didn't expect him to make it through that week. He did.

Monday night, he scored 21s for both his Charleston (which the judges called "wooden")and his trio Salsa, with a Willie Wonka theme - and landed at the bottom of the leader board. The trio dance was cute, but his technique was seriously lacking.

Unlike the other self-proclaimed "underdogs" -- Jack Osbourne and Leah Remini -- Engvall doesn't seem to be hitting that next level. And it makes me sad, because I really did want to see him make it to the finals. But it should take more than fan votes to get him there; the dancing needs to improve.

I'm hoping that happens in next week's semi-finals, because the guy is just awesome otherwise!
