The rapidly approaching Shreveport mayoral election seems to have no shortage of candidates, from Patrick Williams and Ollie Tyler to Roy Burrell and Victoria Provenza. But there's one new candidate who's getting a lot of buzz and he's not even real: Pappy O'Daniel.

There's a newly erected billboard on Highway 1 South. It sports a large photograph of the late actor Charles Durning in his role as politician and radio star Pappy O'Daniel in the movie, 'O, Brother, Where Art Thou'. But what makes this roadside sign intriguing is what it says: Pappy O'Daniel for Mayor.

So, who'd put up a sign promoting a fictional character for Shreveport's highest office? And of all the characters in all the movies who've ever been 'politically inclined', why this one? If you're one of the few who have the answers, or if you want to know as much as we do, be listening to Erin McCarty and me tomorrow morning between six and nine on Newsradio 710 KEEL. We'll definitely by trying to get to the bottom of this little mystery!
