North Bossier residents are eagerly waiting for the Southern Maid Donuts at E. Texas Street and Shed Road to reopen after a fire in late October.

Local franchise owner Mike Jones tells KEEL News there's been one big problem with getting the restaurant fixed.

"Repairs have been delayed by rain," he said. "The same rain that destroyed the fair...slowed them down, and continues to do so."

Jones says construction workers originally projected it would take a month to make the repairs, but all the work has to be done outside. The excessive rainfall has prevented crews from getting it done.

The blaze left the building with some smoke damage inside, but the roof took the brunt of the fire damage.

"From the picture, it looked bad," Jones said. "Actually, the fire originated from the wires that were serving the front lights and signs outside. It didn't get inside, so it just looked bad."

There's a tarp up now, and Jones said fortunately, no rain has leaked into the donut shop. He said he's getting a lot of calls from residents asking when the place will be back open for business. He said as soon as he finds out an exact date, he'll be flooding the airwaves with the info.
