With the July 4th holiday right around the corner, a lot of folks are thinking about getting fireworks.

Those go on sale in Shreveport tomorrow. June 25. Fire department spokesman Scott Wolverton says you can buy and discharge fireworks between noon and 10 p.m. from then until July 5.

In Bossier City, fireworks don't go on sale until Friday, June 28. You can buy and discharge them from then until July 5, between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. each day.

City spokesman Mark Natale reminds you to be courteous of your neighbors, though. Once 10 o'clock rolls around, the fireworks need to stop. It could mean a misdemeanor charge for you if you violate the ordinance.

Here are a few safety tips for you if your holiday will include some crackles and booms:

  • Always buy your fireworks from a reputable dealer.
  • Never aim, shoot or throw fireworks at people or animals. Be careful around pets, because the loud noises can startle them and cause some disturbing consequences.
  • Keep a bucket of water or garden hose handy in case of an emergency. Douse spent fireworks after use, to make sure they're out. And never try to relight a "dud."
  • Parental supervision is a MUST. A responsible adult should be on-hand whenever children will be handling fireworks.
