Flag Day is June 14th every year.  But what is Flag Day?

Flag Day, as the name obviously states, honors our nation's flag on the anniversary it was authorized for use by Congress.

According to the National Flag Day Foundation, the Stars & Stripes that we recognize today as our nation's colors was authorized for use on June 14, 1777.  As described by the Continental Congress:

Resolved that the flag of the thirteen United States be Thirteen stripes alternate red and white: that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation

The holiday itself came around after a Wisconsin teacher in 1885 instructed his students to write an essay about the nation's flag.  He said June 14th was the flag's birthday.
