Shreveport firefighters were busy with a couple of fires this weekend.

One of them was called in shortly after 3PM Saturday at a home in the 3700 block of Summer Avenue. Crews arrived a few minutes later and reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the house.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in about 15 minutes. The damage was contained to one room, with minor smoke damage throughout the home. The homeowner was in the process of moving into the house. She was there when the fire started and escaped without injury. The cause is still under investigation.

Another fire was called in just after 10 last night at Towne Oaks South Apartments in the 7800 block of Youree Drive. It started in the laundry room and maintenance area of the complex.

Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the other half of the building. The flames were brought under control shortly after 10:15. The laundry room and its contents sustained heavy damage. No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation.
