The Shreveport Fire Department has begun providing free practical water safety rescue demonstrations -- to kick off National Water Safety Month and the opening of Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation pools. Fire Department Spokesman Fred Sanders says, since even the most experienced swimmers can experience problems in the water, one of the big things dive team members are teaching is "Reach, Throw, Tow and Go." He says the next safety class is being held from 1 to 3 this Saturday afternoon at Bill Cockrell Pool on Pines Road. Other scheduled classes: Sunday, May 15th, at David Raines Pool on Round Grove Lane; Saturday, May 21st, at Querbes Park on Beverly Place; and Saturday, May 28th, at Southern Hills Park on Bert Kouns. All demonstrations run from 1 to 3 in the afternoons.
