A local man on the lam since last Friday is behind bars this afternoon in connection with a shooting in west Shreveport.

At approximately 9:09 a.m. on January 13, 2012, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 5200 block of Virginia Avenue relative to a report of shots fired in that area.  Officers responding to that area soon discovered 34 year old Cedric Atkins in the 5300 block of Prentiss Avenue with a bullet wound to the left leg.  Atkins was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department with what was described as a non-life-threatening injury.

Detectives soon learned that Atkins and a suspect identified as 27 year old Brandon Ruffin were involved in some type of altercation there on Prentiss Avenue when the Ruffin allegedly produced a handgun and began shooting at the victim.

Investigators took Ruffin, of the 4700 block of Vivian Street in Shreveport, into custody without incident Wednesday afternoon and have booked him into the Shreveport City Jail on one count each of attempted second degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
