Louisiana lawmakers are closer to lifting the ban on shelters using donated venison.

This bill comes after the Department of Health and Hospitals threw out 1,600 pounds of donated deer meat that was donated by Hunters for the Homeless.

That meat, which was donated to the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission, was valued at $8,000 dollars.

The proposed legislation, introduced by Bossier City Representative Jeff Thompson, passed the House 97-0.
