Union Square, a 2.6-acre plaza, in San Francisco was evacuated earlier today because a suspicious package was found. A one-block radius around the square has was closed to vehicles and pedestrians and citizens have been advised to avoid the area.

According to KTVU.com, a call came in to San Francisco police around 11:50 a.m. and the caller reported a suspicious device located at Powell and Stockton streets.

Officials say that Eastbound San Francisco Municipal Railway service will continue in the area.
