A couple of brothers have been busted for food stamp fraud. Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator says 38-year-old Abdo Zamzambi worked at a local convenient store and would purchase food stamps from others for about 60 cents on the dollar, then use the Louisiana Purchase cards to buy soft drinks in bulk for his store. The man's 24-year-old brother, Safwan, is charged with being a prinicple to the crimes. Prator says this type of activity is a growing concern, and that the people who receive the cash for their cards often use the money to purchase prohibited items, like alcohol or drugs.
