Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division agents across the state were out in full force during the opening weekend of the turkey-hunting season.

On March 19 and 20, LDWF agents issued 13 citations for turkey hunting violations. Of those 13 citations, 11 were for illegally hunting turkeys over bait.  Hunting turkeys over a baited area carries a fine up to $500, or up to 90 days in jail, or both plus court costs. Hunting without possession of a turkey tag brings a $50 fine, or up to 15 days in jail or both.
