Tropical Storm Emily is brewing in the eastern Gulf of Mexico just off the west coast of the Florida Peninsula.

The National Weather Service reports this system is expected to move inland across the western Florida coast later today, but it's not expected to get much stronger.

Emily is centered about 45 miles west-southwest of Tampa and 50 miles west-northwest of Sarasota. NOAA Doppler radar data from Tampa shows maximum winds have increased to near 45 mph with higher gusts.

Emily is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 2 to 4 inches through tonight along the west coast of central Florida.
