Top Ten Christmas Events in the Arklatex
If you are looking for great Christmas Events in Shreveport Bossier and the surrounding area, you might want to check out our list.
NATCHITOCHES CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL
One of my favorite events in our region is the Christmas Festival in Natchitoches. You might be wondering “when do the Christmas lights come on in Natchitoches”. The town will hit the switch on Saturday, November 21st.
CHRISTMAS IN ROSELAND
This is one of the most beautiful settings in our area for Christmas. The Christmas lights among the rose bushes and the rural woods is just spectacular. Several local choirs will be singing and there will be lots of events for young children to check out. Christmas in Roseland is a family tradition for many Shreveport Bossier residents. The event kicks off the day after Thanksgiving and runs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through December 19th.
CHRISTMAS ON CADDO FIREWORKS FESTIVAL
If you want to start a new holiday tradition, checkout the Christmas on Caddo Festival. This happens on Saturday, December 3rd in Oil City. It’s all going on at Earl Williamson Park on Highway 1. The holiday event runs from 3pm until after the fireworks which go off at 6:30pm.
DECEMBER ON THE RED
For the first three Saturdays in December, check out Shreveport’s newly renovated Riverview Park for great holiday fun. December on the Red features a Christmas Carnival on December 3rd. There will also be live entertainment from 4-6pm. Also, there’s a free screening of the classic holiday film A Christmas Story at 6 p.m.
CHRISTMAS IN THE SKY
This is the grandfather of all charity events in our region. Christmas in the Sky is a fundraiser for the Shreveport Regional Arts Council and it is the biggest and most extravagant party in the region. In fact, Christmas in the Sky has been given the honor of “Best Gala in the World” honors by Special Events Magazine. This is an adult only event and it’s set for Saturday, December 10th at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs.
BENTON CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE
I think this is the best family event going right here in Shreveport Bossier. The Benton Christmas on the Square Festival brings out the entire community. You will find great arts and crafts, food and holiday fellowship. But don’t miss the parade which rolls at 3pm. Children love this event and Santa Claus is the featured attraction.
WONDERLAND OF LIGHTS IN MARSHALL TEXAS
This is near the top of the list for my boys. They loved going to Marshall a couple of times each year to ice skate during the Wonderland of Lights Festival. This year, there will be something new. on Saturday, December 10th there will be an outdoor Christmas market and a “Wonderland of Cars” Vintage Car Show.
SONGS OF THE SEASON
A spectacular Christmas Musical that will make you think you are watching a show on Broadway. Songs of the Season runs December 14th through December 18th and will be one of the hottest tickets to get in our community. It’s being staged at Shreveport Community Church on Buncombe Road. The event will feature food, a petting zoo, pony rides, and a live nativity scene. This is something you will want to bring the children out to enjoy.
The 3rd Annual Cowboy Christmas event will be Saturday, December 17th at Faith Farm and Arena in Elm Grove. It will feature a live nativity scene, food, entertainment, dancing, contests and more. It’s all going on from 1-5pm with the concert kicking off at 5pm and features Landry & Company and Jo-el Sonnier.
MINDEN CHRISTMAS PARADE
The Minden Christmas Parade kicks off at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Minden on December 3rd. You will find several local bands and lots of floats taking part in this small town, but big time holiday tradition.
