All three Caddo Parish Students of the Year have been chosen by the Louisiana Department of Education to represent this region in statewide competition.

South Highlands Magnet Elementary School fifth grader Ceara Johnson, eighth grader Safa Michigan from Caddo Middle Magnet School, and Captain Shreve High School Senior Madeline Wagnon will now be competing with their counterparts from five other regions of the state to see who will be chosen as Louisiana's Students of the Year at their respective grade levels.  The eighteen finalists and the three of them chosen as tops in the state will all be honored on April 16th during a ceremony at the Louisiana State Museum in Baton Rouge.

According to the state education department, students are selected based on criteria that measure academic achievement, leadership skills, character, and service to their schools and communities.  State Education Superintendent John White says, "These students once again prove that our schools are effectively educating Louisiana's youth."  Board of Elementary and Secondary Education President Chas Roemer says, "These finalists are great examples of what our students are capable of, and their success reaffirms the high expectations we are setting in schools across Louisiana."

NewsRadio 710 KEEL congratulates all three of these Caddo Parish students and wishes them well in state competition.
