Thousands of people turned out for the Defenders of Liberty Air Show at Barksdale Air Force Base Saturday and Sunday. The feature act was the Air Force's elite Thunderbirds.

They flew in that famous diamond formation and then split off at speeds in excess of 600 miles per hour.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the Thunderbirds show is when they race towards each other and pull away at the last minute.

The Thunderbirds represent the best the Air Force has to offer.
And many of their maneuvers are actually used in real combat in Afghanistan.
