A crowd estimated at more than two thousand filled downtown's Festival Plaza Saturday for the second annual 'Gumbo Gladiators' gumbo cook-off competition presented by Volunteers For Youth Justice.

More than twenty teams from all over Louisiana competed for prizes in non-seafood and seafood gumbo categories, with a $500 first prize being awarded to both winners.

Judges included local restauranteurs Barry Gerald and Gerald Savoie and Newsradio 710 KEEL morning personality Erin McCarty.

Judges' seafood gumbo winner was Creole Gumbo Champions, while Cookin' Cousins took the top spot in the non-seafood category. Gumbo Yah got the most votes in the Peoples Choice category.
