There's a little more of a sagging feeling in Thibodaux.

The city council voted against banning saggy pants within city limits by a 3-2 vote.  Debate over the matter lasted 45 minutes before the vote was made.

Councilman Chip Badeaux voted against the measure because he believes in limited government and is concerned that society will start banning things they don't like.

One example he gave is his displeasure for tobacco spit cans.  Despite his displeasure, he would not ban them.

Those in favor of the measure argued it is disturbing to see someone with pants hanging so low their underwear is exposed.

Other opposition to the law said it violates a person's right to freedom of expression.

However, Badeaux said there are more important things to be worrying about than dictating potentially offensive fashion statements.  He added police can enforce a similar parish ordinance if they wished.
