I know how hard it is to make a road trip with someone you love. But imagine if three mega-divas hit the road.

This sounds like one of the strangest car journeys in showbiz history. Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Jackson were all in New York City on September 11, 2001. They apparently hired a car to drive out of the city after planes were grounded following the 9/11 attacks.

The road trip from New York to Ohio allegedly saw Brando, who weighed nearly 300 pounds insisting on stopping at nearly every fast-food joint along the way. Jackson had been in New York after performing two concerts at Madison Square Garden on September 10th, 2001. He invited Dame Liz and Brando to watch. After the Twin Towers collapsed, Jackson allegedly got a call from pals in Saudi Arabia who warned that America was under attack. The singer reportedly flew into a panic and shouted for everyone in his hotel – including Brando – to leave immediately. According to Vanity Fair, Dame Liz, who was staying in another hotel, then joined the pair and a large entourage as they made their escape out of the stricken city. The actor Corey Feldman, who Michael had befriended when he was a child star, said he had a row with Jacko the previous night and instead chose to stay behind. He recalled: “Elizabeth hadn’t arrived, and 9/11 happened. But Michael was trying to get her out. He was wanting permission to fly a private jet — but that wasn't happening. An ex-employee of Jackson’s said the singer ditched the entourage in New Jersey before the three legends took to the road. Vanity Fair’s Sam Kashner said: “Brando allegedly annoyed his companions by stopping at nearly every KFC and Burger King. One can only imagine the shock their appearance caused across the States.” However, no photos seem to have been taken on the 535-mile journey and one of Liz’s pals denied the story. She said: “Liz stayed behind and went to pray in a church, then went to Ground Zero. The airports opened and she flew home.” The three alleged road trippers have all since died – Brando in 2004, aged 80, Jackson in 2009, aged 50, and Liz in March, aged 79.
