Dogs and their human owners will converge on downtown Shreveport this weekend for the first and only Unsinkable Pup Walk. Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Liz Swaine tells KEEL News this event was created to showcase the Titanic Artifacts Exhibition at Sci-Port, as well as promote lots of other facilities in downtown Shreveport.

It starts at Sci-Port, where you'll get a boarding pass for the Titanic exhibit, then moves on to CoHabitat, the Red River District, the J. Bennett Johnston Waterway Center and the Shreveport riverfront. It ends back at Sci-Port, where you can have someone hold your dog outside for you so you can check out the exhibit -- or you can go back any time before the Titanic sets sail from the science center on January 20th.

"There's also a whole lot of lagniappe," Swaine says. You'll get a chance to taste food that might have been served on Titanic...and enjoy some music from the period, too. The actors who play characters from the ill-fated voyage will be onhand, telling their stories. There's even a Scavenger Hunt, where the grand prize is a a heart-shaped Blue Topaz ring.

Of course, Fifi and Fido won't be neglected. You'll have a chance to win gift certificates for dog grooming and "pawdicures" from Ruff2Fluss on Line Avenue. And if you're looking for a canine all your own, animals up for adoption will be there.

Swaine says the event's cost is minimal compared to all you get to do...just $13. "Eight dollars goes to Sci-Port, and that is the cost for going through the Titanic Exhibition. Five dollars will be a donation that will be made to the Shreveport Dog Park Alliance," she says.

It's all going on this coming Sunday, January 6th, from 2 to 5 p.m. You can get tickets through Sci-Port. Just go to www.sciport.org for more info.
