The Caddo Sheriff's Office has been using it since May...now, the Civil Inquiry Fingerprinting System is being rolled out statewide. Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator tells me that every sheriff's office in Louisiana is now equipped with a Live Scan fingerprinting workstation. That means employers can send prospective employees to get a hand scan, which checks databases at the FBI and the Louisiana Department of Public Safety to see if that applicant is wanted, has an arrest record, is a convicted sex offender or has been convicted of domestic violence offenses. Prator says since May, his office has been able to experiment with the system and work out all the bugs. Now, what used to take several weeks or months will take as little as 24 hours. All employers need to do to register for the new system is call their closest sheriff's office.
