U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), a member of the Senate Budget Committee, issued the following statement after the United States added over $1 trillion to the debt this fiscal year for the fifth straight year:

“This dismal benchmark underscores the President’s aversion to making tough fiscal choices, as well as the glaring absence of a Democrat budget in the Senate for over three years.

“Republicans in Congress continue to produce budgets that cut spending, reform entitlements, and simplify the tax code, but the President and our colleagues refuse to confront our fiscal reality.”

Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance, Judiciary, Armed Services and Budget Committees.  He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.
