THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Mardi Gras brings out families to enjoy food, parades and colorful beads. It's also known for alcohol and loud music.

So in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes, alcohol- and tobacco-free zones have been established along parade routes for people who want to enjoy the festivities and not drink, The Daily Comet reports..

In Houma, Main Street between Naquin and Barataria streets will be sectioned off as a no-smoking, no-alcohol area, Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis says.

In Thibodaux, people can watch the parades with no alcohol or smoking in designated Family Fun zones in front of Edwin H. Chiasson Sr. Memorial Park on Jackson Street and East Thibodaux Middle School on Seventh Street, police spokesman David Melancon says.
