Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington and officials from Bossier City, Bossier Parish Police Jury, Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and others met Saturday morning to assess the Red River flooding and implement planning to aid and assist those affected by the high waters.
Today, Governor Bobby Jindal authorized the activation of up to 200 Louisiana National Guardsmen on State Active Duty to support flood response efforts in Northwest Louisiana and assist local, parish and state emergency officials.
With the Red River now predicted to crest at 36.5 feet by Sunday afternoon, the City of Shreveport has decided to cancel some events at venues that would take citizens near the river this weekend.
As of this morning, the National Weather Service's Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service says the Red River will now crest in Shreveport at 36.5 feet by Sunday afternoon.
