Prison escape

Authorities in New York state say one of two convicts who escaped from a prison in far northern New York was fatally shot Friday afternoon after he failed to comply with orders. Richard Matt was found in the woods after customs and border patrol agents responded by helicopter to a call about a gunshot fired at a camping trailer. The team reported smelling gunpowder near the trailer and suspected a gun had been fired. Matt was in nearby woods.

Tools were hidden in frozen meat by some prison employees in New York. Joyce Mitchell told investigators she put hacksaw blades and a screwdriver in the meat.
