Saturday morning, members of different area Mardi Gras krewes gathered at St. Pius X for the annual Mardi Gras Mass. The event was created by John Manno, a member of the Krewe of Gemini, more than 15 years ago.
The Mardi Gras season officially kicked off Saturday night with the 12th Night Celebration hosted by the Krewes of Centaur and Gemini at the Bossier Civic Center. But on Friday night the area royalty got the chance to let their hair down in a casual setting at the annual Royalty Mixer at the Centaur Den.
The 12th Night Party to kick off the Mardi Gras season was quite an event. The Krewe of Centaur parade rolls on February 9th while the Krewe of Gemini is set to roll on February 2nd. Both will begin downtown and wrap up near the duck pond on East Kings.
I had a great opportunity a while back when I was invited to help host a busload of tour directors that came here from all over North America for a convention. They were here in Shreveport and Bossier City looking for future convention sites and tour bus destinations.
