Mayor Cedric Glover says Shreveport will seek federal assistance in its ongoing fight to permanently close the Harrelson Landfill, which has blanketed a Shreveport neighborhood with smoke and fumes for years.

Mayor Cedric Glover is holding a public meeting at 5:30 this evening (Sept. 4) to offer insight on the state-approved plan that seeks to close the commercial landfill that continues to operate even though an underground fire burns regularly at the site.

The Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Order to Close to Harrelson Materials Management.

The Department of Environmental Quality has issued an administrative order requiring the Harrelson landfill to cease receiving and disposing of new material. That material is believed to be causing fire and smoke issues at the landfill at I-220 and Russell Road.
