March 2-8 marks National Severe Weather Preparedness Week. During this time, the Northwest Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross encourages individuals and families to make sure that they are prepared for the severe weather and tornadoes that often affect our communities in the spring.

March is Red Cross Month, and there are several events coming up to recognize the nation's everyday heroes who reach out to help their neighbors when they are in need.

Carbon monoxide is known as the "silent killer." It's an invisible, odorless gas that claims hundreds of lives each year across the country.

The American Red Cross is doing some special training this weekend. The focus is on Shelter Operations, which are essential for northwest Louisiana in the event of disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and fires.

A big thank-you campaign for our overseas troops begins next week. September 30th marks the start of the 2013 American Red Cross "Holiday Mail for Heroes."
