Suspect in Dallas police shooting is dead.

Dallas police confirmed the death of a gunmen that fired automatic weapons at officers outside Dallas Police Department headquarters and then engaged in a standoff from inside an armored vehicle Saturday morning.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said they think it was one gunman shooting from multiple locations, despite witness reports of as many as four shooters. Several windows were shattered at police headquarters during the shootout and the department's information desk and an old helicopter also contain bullet holes.

Dallas police said they think a gunmen is dead after he fired automatic weapons at officers outside Dallas Police Department headquarters and then engaged in a standoff from inside an armored vehicle.

After the shooting at 12:30 a.m., the gunman used an armored vehicle to ram a police vehicle before leading officers on a pursuit south on Interstate 45.

The chase culminated in a standoff at a Jack in the Box parking lot along I-45 near Interstate 20 in Hutchins beginning at about 1 a.m. I-45 was shut down and Dallas SWAT was deployed.

The gunman called 911 and left a long rant and Dallas Police Department Chief David Brown said negotiators called that phone number. Talks continuously broke down when the man became agitated and ranted.

"The suspect has told our negotiators that we took his child and we accused him of being a terrorist and that he's going to blow us up," Dallas Police Department Chief David Brown said.

Dallas police were in a standoff early this morning after suspects in an armored van opened fire on the DPD HQ before leading officers on a ten mile chase.

The suspects' vehicle was "disabled" with a .50 caliber rifle, but the standoff continues.

One apartment complex was evacuated as a precaution after one or more bombs were discovered outside police headquarters.

Just after 6 a.m., Dallas Police Maj. Max Geron said on Twitter that officers were clearing the station.

"Not 'evacuating' but getting officers to clear in service from the station," he said in response to a tweet.

The chase culminated in a standoff in a Jack in the Box parking lot alongside I-45 near Interstate 20 in Hutchins.

I-45 was shut down and Dallas SWAT was deployed.

Negotiators are speaking with a person inside the suspected vehicle, police.

"The suspect has told our negotiators that we took his child and we accused him of being a terrorist and that he's going to blow us up," Chief Brown said.

The suspect told police his name is James Boulware, police said that was the name given but that they have not confirmed the man is who he says he is.

The gunman also said he had explosives in the van, which appeared to be outfitted with gun ports in the sides.

No injuries have been reported, according to Dallas police Maj. Max Geron.
