Study Shows Louisiana 6th Least Charitable State

Nearly one third of all charitable giving happens during the holiday season, specifically the month of December. And once again, the USA leads the world (along with Myanmar) in individual giving. To give us a closer look, personal finance social network WalletHub conducted an analysis of '2014s Most and Least Charitable States'.

Metrics for the survey include specific volunteer rates for each state, the percentage of taxpayers who donated to charity and increase / decrease in charitable giving.

And how did our own state of Louisiana do? Well, believe it or not, we're the sixth least charitable state in the USA. Here are the numbers:

Generosity in Louisiana 

• 50^th – Volunteer Rate
• 34^th – % of Population Who Claim to Have Donated Time
• 46^th – % of Population Who Claim to Have Donated Money
• 44^th – % of Taxpayers Who Donated to Charity
• 20^th – Growth in Charitable Giving (2012 vs. 2006)
• 45^th – Number of Charities per Capital
