A just completed study on the economic impact of the privatization of Shreveport's University Health hospital has brought an estimated $1 billion to the region.

The study, commissioned by Biomedical Research Foundation, which operates the state's nine former charity hospitals, also says that privatization has created nearly 3,000 jobs across Louisiana and, most importantly, improved healthcare for the patients served at these once state run facilities.

Economist Dr. Loren Scott tells 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty the details of the study, which flies in the face of criticism of Jindal's privatization and cries of financial trouble by many in Baton Rouge and the medical industry.
