State lawmakers get together Monday to begin the regular legislative session.

Several tax measures will be proposed. One that is getting lots of attention is the increase in the gas tax. The Governor is pitching a 23 cent a gallon increase. A business coalition, including the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce has come out in favor of a 17 cent a gallon increase.

We talked with State Representative Alan Seabaugh about many of these proposals.

Seabaugh says there is one measure he might consider supporting. It's a 5 dollar a night fee on hotel stays across the state. That is a tax that would be predominantly be paid by visitors. The money would be dedicated to roads.
