State Rep. Henry Burns Announces Candidacy for State Senate

SHREVEPORT, LA – Today, Louisiana Representative Henry Burns announced his candidacy for State Senate District 36, currently represented by Senator Robert Adley.

Burns explained, “It is with a humble and happy heart that I announce my candidacy for Louisiana State Senate District 36, which will be open next fall due to term limitations for Senator Robert Adley. It has been a privilege to serve District 9 in the Louisiana State House of Representatives. I look forward to expanding the ministry of my current office to the parishes of Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, and Bienville.”

Burns has served his Bossier State Representative District since 2007. Burns is a member of the following committees: Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development, Appropriations, Education, Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, and Special Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs. He is also affiliated with the Louisiana Rural Caucus. Burns was appointed as the last Chairman of the I-49 Legislative Coalition and along with the hard work of many community leaders, that interstate is becoming a reality.

Burns continued, "With over 26 years in the military, 15 years on the Bossier Parish School Board, and 22 years as the owner of a local small business as well as my many years struggling and enjoying the oil field, I know I have the experience to understand the many of the challenges that we all face on a daily basis."

Burns has become a leading voice for the oil and gas industry and in 2009 passed a law extending the validity of state drilling permits, allowing producers more time to turn a profit. Better known as the “Cookie Man” because of his former ownership of the bakery, The Wooden Spoon, Burns has stood hand-in-hand with teachers, small business leaders, and military families to make Louisiana a better place to live.

Burns concluded his statement announcing, "Out of respect for the many important elections this fall, I will not start campaigning fulltime until after the fall elections are concluded. Soon after the fall elections are finalized, I will get my campaign started and into full swing to become your next State Senator. I need your help in the fall of 2015 and I look forward to the opportunity to continue to visit with the people of this district to listen to their concerns for the future of our community."
