Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation will host swimming pool open houses beginning this weekend for the 2016 pool season.

These open houses will give kids and adults the opportunity to meet the lifeguards for the upcoming summer season. The Shreveport Fire Department will also conduct water safety demonstrations. This comes at the perfect time, too, since May is National Water Safety Month.

Shreveport kicks off the summer swimming season Wednesday, June 1. All pools except Southern Hills will close July 31. Swimming lessons and water aerobics classes will be offered, in partnership with Rock Solid Sports.

Don't forget, SPAR also has seven spray grounds, located at Airport Park, David Raines, Hattie Perry, Lakeside and Querbes. There are also spray grounds at A.C. Steere Park and Riverview Park, but those are closed right now due to Red River flooding.

Here's the list of open house dates, times and locations:

Saturday, May 7 -- 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Querbes Pool

Saturday, May 14 -- 2-4 p.m. at Southern Hills Pool

Sunday, May 15 -- 2-4 p.m. at David Raines Pool

Saturday, May 21 -- 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Airport Park Pool

Saturday, May 28 -- 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Bill Cockrell Pool
