Openings are still available for youngsters wanting to attend this year's Caddo Sheriff's Youth Firearms Safety Education Camp.  

The camp will be held June 16-20 at the Caddo Sheriff's Regional Training Academy on Highway-1 South near Lock and Dam #5.  Monday and Tuesday of that week are already filled up but there are still openings for Wednesday through Friday.  Each one-day camp session begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.  The camp is free and transportation is available for those who need it.

The camp is open to boys and girls aged 10-14.  Each participant will spend a full day on the firing range with Caddo deputies for supervised firearms safety education and .22 caliber rifle target shooting.  But that's not all.  Participants will also learn rural and urban survival skills, water safety, and hands-on defensive techniques to protect against stranger abduction.

Applications are available online at www.caddosheriff.org  They can also be picked up at any Caddo Sheriff's Office substation, Caddo Correctional Center, or Sheriff's Safety Town.  Completed applications should be mailed to the Caddo Sheriff's Regional Training Academy, 15639 Highway-One South, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71115.
