Southern Arkansas University Ends Milk Program, No Student Interest In Milking Cows
The program had been in existence for a century, but now, Southern Arkansas University is ending its milk program.
Why?
The program says it is because the university couldn't find students who wanted to milk cows twice a day.
The school also had to decide whether to invest a lot of money into upgrading their dairy program or shut it down. There were too few students interested in the dairy process. The school chose to end the program.
Southern Arkansas University will use the funds in other parts of the $8 million agriculture center.
The school will be selling its milk herd and equipment.
