The Red River Waterway Commission is re-opening several boat launches on the Red River now that water levels have begun to fall.   These include the ramps located in Coushatta, Natchitoches, Grant (excluding Colfax Rec. Area), and Rapides parishes.

Today’s readings show that levels have fallen below 22 feet on the gage at Alexandria and 26 feet at Coushatta.

Boat ramps located in Caddo, Bossier, and Avoyelles parishes remain closed until further notice.  The ramp at the Colfax Recreation Area upstream of Lock and Dam 3 at the RV Park will also remain closed during the operation of the hinge pool which causes swifter currents for boaters entering the river channel.

Boaters should use caution when launching into the current and watch for unexpected changes in river conditions such as trees and sandbars while navigating the river.

As water levels continue to fall to normal stages, additional cleaning and repairs will be necessary to accommodate the launching process.  Boaters may experience temporary closures of the ramps during these periods.

For more information regarding the re-opening of these ramps or the Red River, call the Red River Waterway Commission at 318-352-7446 or 1-800-874-9431 or visit the website at www.redriverwaterway.com.
