A sobriety checkpoint held over the weekend in Bossier leads to 11 arrests -- five for DWI and six for drug offenses.

The operation was a combined effort among the Bossier and Caddo Sheriff's Offices, Bossier City Police Department, and Louisiana State Police. It was held from 10 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday in the 8000 block of East Texas Street.

Authorities checked nearly 650 vehicles in order to identify and remove impaired drivers from the road before they could cause injury or death to themselves or others.

"Compliance with Louisiana driving laws is our ultimate goal in order to keep everyone safe on the road," said Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington.

The 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' checkpoint was conducted through a $14,040 grant awarded to the BSO from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for DWI enforcement.
