Even though the event is designed for kids aged 5 through 14 and their parents, it's one I plan on bring my almost-4-year-old to. Sign Up Saturday is a free youth sports, health and wellness expo that runs from 10 a.m. til 2 p.m. on July 21.

Tommy Canturbury with Sports Care USA, Inc., calls it a "one-stop shop" for anything you can think of that your child might enjoy.  It's a three-facet event -- first, there's the sports part.  That's where parents can get their kids signed up for everything from sports to dance lessons to swim lessons to karate.  Bossier Parks and Recreation will have lots of booths set up, with the leaders of each activity there for parents to talk with and get information from.

Second, there's the health side.  Kids can get free vision, hearing and fitness screenings, health and nutrition information, and pediatric dental information.  Plus, Willis Knighton will have the Shots for Tots van there providing free immunizations.

Third, there's the safety part.  The Bossier Parish Sheriff's office, Bossier City Police and Fire Departments, Louisiana State Police and ThinkFirst will be onhand with their own safety information.

And if that wasn't enough, Canterbury says there will also be hands-on activities the kids can enjoy and demonstrations, too.

Looking forward to seeing you all at this important local event!
