Shreveport's St. Patrick's Day parade has been cancelled because of funding and planning issues.

Parade Chairman Emily Welch has posted this on the parade's Facebook page.

I've been dreading this post because I've been trying to work it out, but due to funding issues, decreased entrants and the fact that I will be unable to attend the parade and can't find a replacement, the 2014 St. Patrick's Day parade WILL NOT roll as planned. I've very sad we will not roll but we can all be very proud that in the past 5 parades we've raised over $7,000 for local Shreveport charities! That is a huge accomplishment for such a little parade. We will be able to make two small donations to two local charities, Meals on Wheels and Girls on the Run Shreveport. Please contact me with any questions or if you or someone you know would like to take over the reigns in 2015 and revive our little parade that can and help wear the green for a good cause.

Thank you again for all your support.

Best regards,
Emily

The parade has raised more than $7,000 for charities including Right to Play Playground, The Reach Out to Read Program, Peter Pan Players, Shriner's Hospital of Shreveport and Volunteers for Youth Justice/CASA.
