Shreveport's Sam Burns advanced to the round of 32 in the United States Amateur Championship in Atlanta today with a 2&1 victory against Matt Nesmith of South Carolina. Burns, a Calvary Baptist senior will meet Ollie Schniederjans of Georgia tomorrow morning in the next round.

Burns trailed Nesmith by one after the seventh hole. But he birdied the eighth to square the match, then took the lead with a birdies at 10 and 12.

The round of 32 and 16 will be contested Thursday. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday, the semifinals Saturday and the 36-hole championship match Sunday.
