The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers J. Bennett Johnston Waterway Regional Visitors' Center will have extended operating hours for the summer months.  

It will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Additional summer staffing at the visitors' center will enable these summer hours to be in effect until September 15, 2014.  New dates and times will be set after that date.

The J. Bennett Johnston Waterway Regional Visitors' Center is located at the corner of Crockett St. and the Clyde Fant Parkway in Shreveport.  It provides the opportunity to learn abgout the Red River, past and present, and how the Corps of Engineers worked to tame the Red for navigation and recreation.  It offers an 8,300 square foot reception area, theater, and exhibition hall with audiovisual, static, and interactive exhibits. Tours are available to the public.

The extended summer operating hours also apply to the Grand Ecore Visitors' Center in Natchitoches.
