A long-time Shreveport resident will soon get to fulfill her dream of living in a new home...thanks to the City of Shreveport and the Fuller Center. Tomorrow morning, Lela Shakir will cut the ribbon on her rebuilt home in the 6000 block of Tulsa Avenue, where she's lived for nearly 40 years. Her home needed major repairs and she looked for assistance through a program operated by the Department of Community Development. But a thorough inspection revealed that the needed repairs exceeded the program's limit of $35,000. Thanks to funds from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, Shakir's home was demolished last June and completely rebuilt on the existing lot. Representatives from the City and Fuller Center will present Shakir the keys to her home at 10:30 in the morning.
