Caddo sheriff's deputies have arrested a Shreveport woman for stealing $27,000 in jewelry from her employer.

Sheriff Steve Prator says in a news release that 27-year-old Lainey Wharton is accused of taking two rings and a bracelet from a home on Red Oak Lane, where she provided cleaning services. The theft was reported Friday, February 13.

Sheriff's Detective Donnie Laney said Wharton pawned the bracelet and one of the rings at local businesses. She was arrested after Sheriff's Cpl. Lonney Smalley saw her trying to return the other ring by dropping it in the victims' mailbox.

Wharton was booked into Caddo Correctional Center on one count of felony theft, two counts of misdemeanor theft, and one count of possessing Schedule II narcotics.
