A Shreveport woman is behind bars for injuring a 17-month-old child.

Police say 25-year-old Gabrielle Kirkendoll had been drinking when she threw the child across the room in alleged attempts at disciplining the infant. The medical staff at University Health found the baby hungry and dirty, with a wet diaper that hadn't been changed for hours.

Kirkendoll was interviewed by detectives, then booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of cruelty to a juvenile. The child is in Child Protective Services custody and is doing O.K.
