Shreveport School Motivates Kids To Take LEAP Test[Photos]
What could take the sting out of taking tests for four days? How about a chance to see and meet a major league baseball player and eat a hotdog?
That's exactly what the students at University Elementary got to do yesterday.
With the LEAP test beginning today, kids got to hear from Bossier native Todd Walker, who played for several major league teams, including the Boston Red Sox, where he set a record for the most hits during post season play.
Principal Paula Nelson was happy to have Walker talk to the students because he's local. He played high school baseball at Airline and college baseball at LSU. In fact, he was at LSU when they won a College World Series.
Walker has been named to several Halls of Fame for Sports.
His message to students, was study hard, make good grades and stay in school.
The LEAP test is especially important for fourth graders because they must pass it to be promoted to fifth grade.
