Shreveport ranks high on a good list. Based on the latest survey of conditions in 146 major markets by Realtor.com, our city is the 10th best in the country when it comes to affordable median home prices and a shrinking list of homes available for sale. Here's the list of the top 10:

1. Detroit, Michigan

2. Iowa City, Iowa

3. Boise, Idaho

4. Tulsa, Oklahoma

5. Ann Arbor, Michigan

6. Nashville, Tennessee

7. Pensacola, Florida

8. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

9. Corpus Christi, Texas

10. Shreveport, Louisiana

Forbes noted that "Shreveport is affordable, has strong job growth (unemployment rate of 5.5-percent) and has seen its median list price for houses jump nearly 3-percent during the past 12 months. The city forecasts another 1,500 new jobs to be added to the economy in 2013 -- a good sign that the real estate market should remain vibrant.’’

"This is excellent news for Shreveport and another positive list we can hang our hats on,’’ says Mayor Cedric Glover. "But we can’t be complacent as we strive for even greater growth, expansion and the overall enhancement of the quality of life for residents throughout our city.’’
