Police are working to capture a suspect who shot a man in west Shreveport late last night during an apparent robbery attempt. Just after 10:15, officers were called to a reported shooting in the 6200 block of East Jewella. There, they found 34-year-old Ricky Goldsmith suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was taken to LSU Hospital with what's been described as a non-life-threatening wound. Detectives have learned that Goldsmith, who works for Union Pacific Railroad, was working on the tracks near East Jewella when he was approached by a man, who pulled a handgun and tried to rob him at gunpoint. The two struggled, and Goldsmith ended up being shot. The suspect took off, but not before dropping his weapon, which has been recovered by police. The suspect is described as a black male, about 5' 10" tall, weighing about 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red t-shirt, and his face was covered with what appeared to be a white t-shirt. If you have information that can help locate him, call Shreveport detectives or Crime Stoppers.
