Shreveport Police Chief Willie Shaw will retire later this month, along with Deputy Chief Duane Huddleston, Mayor Ollie Tyler’s office announced Friday.

Chief Shaw, who was appointed Chief of Police in 2010, began his 26-year career with the Police Department in 1990. He climbed the ranks from patrolman moving from Narcotics to Homicide to Internal Affairs and up to Sergeant. “I cannot say enough good things about the servant leadership Chief Shaw has provided this City at the Police Department. His dedication to the safety and security of our citizens has been his top priority and we will sorely miss him in this administration,” said Mayor Ollie Tyler. “Chief Shaw brought a great deal of experience, commitment, and integrity to his position and we will look for someone to continue that same high quality level of service.”

Deputy Chief Huddleston has served 34 years in the Police Department. In 2012, he was selected by Chief Shaw as the Department’s first Deputy Chief of Police. His work has included positions such as Staff Officer for the Patrol Commander and Supervisor of the Planning and Research Unit. “Deputy Chief Huddleston has shown the heart of a public servant as he has climbed the ranks of the Police Department,” said Mayor Tyler. “We are truly grateful for his service and support over the years.”

A search will be conducted to find a new Police Chief. Mayor Tyler will name an Interim Chief to head the department until one is appointed.
