Shreveport Police crash investigators have cited a patrol officer with one count of hit and run in connection with a crash involving a police department vehicle.

On January 9, 2011 at around 9:00 p.m., a Shreveport Police officer observed some minor damage to the front driver’s side door and fender of a department issued 2006 Chevrolet Impala parked in a police parking lot in the 1700 block of Snow Street. The officer notified supervisors and a crash report was written documenting the damage.

Shreveport Police Department crash investigators immediately began an inquiry into the crash in an effort to determine what had caused the damage. During the course of their investigation, they learned that Officer Brenda Disotell was the last person assigned to the vehicle prior to the damage being noticed. Based on statements from Officer Disotell and other evidence gathered during the investigation, investigators believe she was responsible for the damage.

Disotell, who was hired by the department in February of 2009, was subsequently issued a traffic citation on Monday, February 7, 2011, charging her with one count of hit and run. Chief of Police Willie Shaw has ordered an administrative investigation as well to determine what departmental policies may have been violated.
